Health & Safety
Lowcountry Language Academy is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for students, instructors, and families.
Health and safety practices are implemented in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH). Policies may be updated as public health recommendations evolve.
Illness Policy
Students who are experiencing symptoms of illness should remain at home and return to scheduled program sessions once symptoms have improved and the student is fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
Symptoms that may require a student to stay home include, but are not limited to:
• Fever
• Persistent cough
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Severe cold or flu symptoms
• Contagious conditions such as lice, pink eye, or other communicable illnesses
Families are encouraged to consult with their healthcare provider when necessary.
Lice Policy
Students identified with head lice should remain at home until treatment has been completed and no active lice are present.
Families should notify the academy so that appropriate classroom awareness and preventive cleaning measures can be implemented.
Health Monitoring
Families are asked to monitor their child for symptoms of illness before arriving for scheduled sessions.
If a student becomes ill during a program session, families will be contacted and asked to pick up their child.
Hygiene Practices
Lowcountry Language Academy promotes healthy habits through:
• Frequent hand washing
• Regular cleaning of classroom materials and shared surfaces
• Age-appropriate hygiene instruction for students
Students wash their hands at key times during program sessions, including after outdoor activities and before snack.
Cleaning Protocols
Routine cleaning of learning materials, classroom surfaces, and shared equipment is performed regularly.
Cleaning products approved for use in educational environments are used as part of the facility’s maintenance procedures.
Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning experiences are incorporated into scheduled sessions when appropriate. These activities allow students to explore nature while supporting physical movement and environmental awareness.
Communication
Health updates or policy changes will be communicated to enrolled families through the parent portal and email when applicable.
