AFTER-SCHOOL AND HOME-SCHOOL CLASSES
Our after-school and homeschool Spanish enrichment classes for grades K–5 immerse students in the Spanish language and culture through dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. Each lesson is thoughtfully designed to make language acquisition both joyful and meaningful.
Students engage in games, crafts, role-playing, creative movement, cooking projects, songs, storytelling, and interactive videos. These activities not only strengthen vocabulary and conversational skills but also highlight the richness and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world, fostering curiosity and global awareness.
We emphasize collaboration and communication, encouraging students to work together while actively using Spanish in authentic ways. Lessons are structured to provide opportunities for both individual practice and small-group interaction, helping students build confidence, fluency, and comfort with the language.
To truly learn a language, students must embrace not only its structure but also its culture. As Thomasoulas (2001) explains, culture and communication are deeply intertwined:
“Culture not only dictates who talks to whom about what, and how the communication proceeds, it also helps to determine how people encode a message, the meaning they have for messages, and the conditions and circumstances under which various messages may or may not be sent, noticed, or interpreted.”
In our classrooms, students are consistently immersed in spoken Spanish, reinforcing accurate pronunciation, natural expression, and vocabulary development. Repetition plays a vital role in second-language acquisition, and new language is introduced and practiced through varied, engaging methods to enhance comprehension and long-term retention.
Every lesson is carefully designed to support different learning styles—visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and social—ensuring that each child experiences a nurturing, enriching, and effective path toward bilingual growth.
